Thes last MashDMU meeting before the autumn term took place on Monday 19th September. A number of “regulars” were unable to attend but it was good to see new faces. The topics this time were:
- Alison introduced ifttt (if this then that) – a productivity tool for social media / web 2.0 services that was created with the idea that “the key to unlocking the creative potential of our existing digital tools might be to build a service that simplifies and consolidates the way those tools can be connected”. This enables services like Delicious, Facebook, and Twitter to interact with each other automatically under certain conditions – for example, you can set ifttt up so that if you favorite a Tweet with a link then your Delicious account adds a bookmark for that link.
- Sharon provided feedback on the ALISS event Supporting Researchers: Ebooks Today and the Digital Promises of Tomorrow which she attended in June.
- Phil provded an update on the Single Sign On process, moving from Athens authentication to using one’s DMU Single sign On username/password to log into the range of subscription databases and electronic journals available at the University.
